What is Spike Island Open Studios?:
Open Studios is a chance to explore behind the scenes of a former Brooke Bond tea packing factory, which is now home to over 70 artists’ studios, Spike Print Studio, UWE Fine Art BA/MA students, as well as many other creative practitioners including designers, writers, filmmakers, animators and photographers. This event is free and you would be very welcome to explore different parts of the building if you wished.

What is FACTORY?
Become part of FACTORY, a process based performance, and join me (Jo Lathwood) in creating modular bricks out of waste timber. We will setup an assembly line that will aid us to process around 4000 pieces of wood to make modular bricks. The bricks have been designed with a structural engineer and simply involve the repetitive task of sanding and painting short pieces of wood. There will be four areas which are assigned to a simple task; sanding blocks, quality control, painting blocks and drying area. The bricks will then be used to build a pavilion in Yate in the summer of 2019.

FACTORY is a response to the historical narrative around Yate; Yate was a village that has grown exponentially quickly into a town due to industry and housing developments. FACTORY is open to everyone to come and help so please feel welcome to get involved.
