Bristol Diamonds, 2013, Bronze.
Site specific installation for Trust New Art Bristol, Leigh Woods, Bristol, UK.
Drawing on the mysticism of a wooden landscape this work creates a journey for the audience. The design of each diamond is based on the evolution of cut diamond design spanning from mid 14th century to the present day.
This work references the discovery of Bristol Diamonds within Avon Gorge and surrounding landscape in the 16th Century. After later analysis Bristol Diamonds were defined as quartz crystals and therefore devalued from there original status. In the 18th Century the diamonds became popular novelties for people visiting Bristol and subsequently resulted in decreasing the amount found in its natural habitat of Leigh woods and the Avon Gorge.
The fifth diamond was cast in-situ in Leigh Woods by Ore and Ingot, an Artist-led Bronze foundry in Bristol.
